Treat the Person Not Just the Disease...™
The Company was started to help overcome kidney dialysis patient’s deep dissatisfaction with the current health care system; “get them in, hook them up, get them out”™ with little or no regard for the patient’s quality of life and/or for improving the standard of care. The idea to establish KB Dialysis came from the founder’s experience with his daughter who was diagnosed with kidney disease at a young age. Unfortunate experiences with her 18 plus years of dialysis treatment, before finally receiving a kidney transplant, prompted him to look for alternatives to the apparent “industry standard”.
Different than conventional dialysis facilities, the Kidney Beans Dialysis facility(s) incorporate the philosophies of Integrative Medicine for all patients, their families and caregivers that visit our facility(s). Patients know they are more than the sum of their illnesses. The success of Integrative Medicine depends on a partnership between the patient and the doctor together with his/her medical staff, where the goal is to treat the mind, body, and spirit, all at the same time. Integrative Medicine promises more time, more attention, and a broader approach to healing.
In a 2012 study done by Men’s Health magazine, over half or about 53% of Americans were shown to regularly use some form of complementary or alternative medicine. This includes those that do yoga as well as those that participate in acupuncture, meditation, mantras, aromatherapy, biofeedback and stress reduction.
In an article that appeared in the September 2012 issue of Denver's 5280 Magazine titled The Strangest Show on Earth, Luc Hatlestad wrote about a view echoed by virtually every critic of one of the top dialysis companies, "too many nurses, technicians and administrators gobble up the hugs and high fives from their leader while neglecting their patients or jadedly herding them through the health-care system".
